Meet our new Design Innovation Specialist, Oliver Evans

Say hello to Oliver, PDR’s new Design Innovation Specialist! Hailing from a varied background that includes both industrial and UX/UI design, Oliver’s new role involves working with the Design Policy team and heading up different areas including innovation and exploring new ways of teaching design.

“Currently my primary role is working on a new project called the PDR Academy, working with clients to teach workshops on design and design thinking, which is an interesting project,” Oliver explains. “It’s a great way to learn how to translate different work and styles into creative material for learners and thinking about how that’s presented to the client - it’s definitely sparking my creativity!”

There’s a really great culture in the office. Something special here is this shared mindset we all seem to hold which links back to our work. It’s good to be around other creatives who share the same values of design

But the work isn’t the only thing that drew Oliver to PDR. “One thing I love about working here is that I get to work alongside so many different designers from so many specialisms - user-centred design, circular, industrial… This role gives me the opportunity to work with different people and I get to learn and absorb from the team, and be able to teach that to other people,” Oliver continues. “To me, that’s such a valid skill.”

So, what about PDR’s people? “There’s a really great culture in the office. Something special here is this shared mindset we all seem to hold which links back to our work. It’s good to be around other creatives who share the same values of design,” Oliver admits. “You can see that people’s hobbies influence their creative approaches!”

And speaking of hobbies when he isn’t doing all things ‘design,’ you can find Oliver weightlifting. “It’s great for mental health and relieves stress - but also there’s a great community.” Alternatively, you might spot him with his DSLR as photography, along with being a former full-time job, is still very much a passion.

But his skills don’t stop there! “Something the PDR team doesn't know about me is that I love disassembling things like small engines and electronics, then putting them all back together. I’m the guy to ask when you need something fixed for sure!”

We’ll definitely bear that in mind the next time the printer plays up… The PDR team would like to say a huge welcome to Oliver, and we’re excited to collaborate with you on our projects!
