Recap of MEDICA Trade Fair 2023

Another year, another journey for PDR to MEDICA, one of the world's largest medical B2B trade fairs. The event, held annually in Düsseldorf, Germany, serves as a global platform for the latest advancements in medical technology.

This year, the PDR team including Business Development Manager, Anthony McAllister, PDR’s Managing Director Jarred Evans, and Product Design Manager Stuart Clarke attended the event. The team made the most of their visit, engaging with old and new connections, exploring cutting-edge products, and delving into the dynamic landscape of medical technology.

The fair provided a valuable opportunity for immersion within the world of medical design, particularly for Stuart, who navigated the expansive show for the first time. Anthony, reflecting on the event, expressed the challenges of condensing such a wealth of information into a brief visit, emphasising the importance of the event as a meeting hub for industry professionals.

"Our goal is to re-engage with contacts made over the years and at previous events. It becomes a bit of a meeting hub because to meet 50+ companies could take months, but there's an opportunity where you're all in one place at one time and you get the chance to talk to each other."

The team also shared insights into the meticulous planning undertaken before the event, highlighting the strategic identification of companies for potential collaborations. They also highlighted the significance of the Welsh government's support, which enables PDR to be part of a strong Trade and Invest Wales contingent, fostering international connections.

The team's keen interest in the United States MedTech and healthcare sectors meant we forged ahead with plans to explore opportunities in states like Michigan and Minnesota. Anthony discussed the possibility of a trade mission in the coming years, reflecting PDR’s proactive approach to further expanding its global footprint.

One notable aspect of the trip was our exploration of wearable technologies and proclaimed AI integration into diagnostic solutions, an emerging theme in the medical field. The team acknowledged the growing significance of these sectors and its potential impact on future projects.

As the team returns from MEDICA 2023, their agenda includes a vigorous follow-up on leads and contacts, with potential meetings and collaborations on the horizon.

A big thank you to the organisers and everyone who attended - until next year!
