We’re Supporting 21 Bold New Media Projects Across Wales

The final cohort of the Media Cymru Development Fund is just getting started—and we’re excited to be part of it.

Twenty-one new projects have been selected for this final cohort to research and develop innovative products, services, and experiences that could transform the future of the media sector in Wales. In total, £1 million is being invested in Welsh SMEs and freelancers through this round.

These projects are tackling everything from augmented reality and AI to green solutions and accessible practices in the screen industry, immersive storytelling, and Welsh language media production. It’s a brilliant mix of creativity, technology, and purpose—and we’re proud to be supporting it.

At PDR, we’re working alongside Media Cymru and the Alacrity Foundation to help these innovators bring their ideas to life. Our role is to support the research and development process, offering design-led expertise and guidance to ensure each project is impactful, inclusive, and sustainable.

Andy Walters, Director of Research PDR said: “This is the final cohort in Media Cymru’s Innovation Pipeline—a programme designed to help companies, freelancers and organisations in the media sector to grow their ideas into fully developed solutions, bringing sustainable benefit to the Cardiff Capital Region. It’s been a privilege to support this journey and see the incredible range of talent and ambition coming through.”

From renewable energy generators for film sets to AI-driven gaming environments and multi-sensory instruments designed to increase access to musical expression, the 2025 cohort is full of bold thinking and practical innovation. We can’t wait to see how these projects develop between now and May 2026.

We’ll be sharing updates on the projects and our involvement as they progress over the coming months. Curious about what else we’ve been working on with Media Cymru? Explore our journey so far.
